Finally getting grounded and figured out the design for my donation for the NW Furniture Bank annual fundraiser… of course, it’s due this Friday – not sure why I have been such a space cadet lately.

Join us for a remarkable evening of friends, fine wine, good food, and a lively auction to support the work of NW Furniture Bank. In the past 4 years we have raised over $325,000 in support of NWFB’s mission to provide hope and dignity to families through furniture.

Here’s what the mirror looks like – they always need a before photo.  Spunky, our new terrier buddy, kept trying to see what I was up to!  I bought the wood frame mirror at the Re-Store on Copper Point.

I knew I wanted to do a Celtic design which I will wood burn.  I have several Dover clip art books and researched online for salmon/fish designs.. Now that the design is laid out, tomorrow I start the wood burning.

Description for the fundraiser booklet:

Fintan, the Salmon of Knowledge (Irish: bradán feasa):

Fintan, an ordinary salmon ate nine hazelnuts that fell into the Well of Wisdom ( Tobar Segais) from nine hazel trees that surrounded the well. The salmon gained the entire world’s knowledge. Moreover, the first person to eat of its flesh would, in turn, gain this knowledge.

The poet Finn Eces spent seven years fishing for this salmon. One day Finn caught Fintan and gave the fish to Fionn, his servant, with instructions not to eat it. Fionn cooked the salmon but when he touched the fish with his thumb to see if it was cooked, he burnt his finger on a drop of hot cooking fish fat. Fionn sucked on his burned finger.  All of Fintan’s wisdom had been concentrated into that one drop of fish fat. Throughout the rest of his life, Fionn could draw upon this knowledge merely by biting his thumb. The deep knowledge and wisdom gained from Fintan allowed Fionn to become the leader of the Fianna, the famed heroes of Irish myth.
